Sonny Corinthos:  How the Mighty Have Fallen

Sonny.  How the mighty have fallen.

I have been watching GH forever, well, at least since 1979.  I remember when Sonny first came on. He was scummy - taking advantage of Karen like that.  Bbaadd man!  But then something magical happened.  He and Brenda had a little flirtation over which car was sexier a Jag or a Porsche.  They changed each other's minds and a fascination and flirtation was started.  I watched eagerly every time he flashed those dimples.  When he bought her that bracelet, I remember thinking, "Wow, what 19(?) year old girl wouldn't just DIE to receive something like that from such a sexy Bad Boy".  Sonny's mob stuff was sexy.  He was sexy.

Then he started having a breakdown.  Fascinating.  His hatred toward Carly, the love for Stone, his grief over Lily. I loved him more and more.  I watch with pain as he dated Hannah. "Dummy, she's not Brenda!" I screamed.  But I was still hooked.  His "hate-sex" with Carly was wrong but SO HOT.  I stuck with Sonny through the ups and downs of his relationship with Carly.   I tolerated his cheating with Alexis, his annoying whatever with Angel. This was my guy!

Then, something happened.  Carly got kidnapped and Sonny didn't handle it well.  OK, I could deal with that.  We all have our bad times.  Carly came back and Alcazar started trying to make Sonny think he was crazy.  Not a good situation for sure.  But Sonny crossed a line.  His attitude and behavior toward Carly started ringing of an abusive nature.  I started thinking, "Abuse runs in cycles.  Sonny did learn bad things from his Mom and Stepdad".  When he threw the glass at the wall, screaming at Carly, and Michael ran down to protect his Mom, well, my Sonny's feet started to look like they were made of clay.  He shot Carly in the head, promised to get out of the mob if she lived, and then couldn't be patient with the resulting problems.  Bad man (and not in a good way).

Things continued to get worse.  He saw Carly kissing Alcazar goodbye and ran out and slept with Sam (didn't he do the same thing with Brenda a few years earlier?)!  Then he got Sam preggers and moved her into Jason's penthouse.  Rude on all levels.  He kicked Carly to the curb for keeping someone else's secret (at least she was able to keep a secret for more than 5 minutes.  How long before Sonny told Emily about Sam/Alexis).  Then hooked up with Reese and CONTINUED to forgive her OVER and OVER for keeping secrets/telling lies.  In my opinion THAT'S what drove Carly over the edge.

Now he's the big liar.  He's the one keeping secrets.  What happened to my Sonny?  He's no longer sexy, the dimples seem like a prop, his gifts are repetitive and there is no spark with him and Emily.  I barely pay attention when he's on screen anymore.  My, how the mighty have fallen.
